A RECORD OF PUBLIC VOICE
Protest is an documentary project that captures the language of protest signs. It is in its beginning stage and will develop over time as I have the time to work on it. When large demonstrations take place, I gather publicly available images, read the signs people are holding, and transcribe the slogans exactly as they appear. Each piece in the series is built entirely from these slogans. There is no added commentary, only the voices of those who were there. The first line of each piece notes the country and date, marking the context in which the words were raised. The first poster in the series documents a major protest in the United States on April 5, 2025. Future works will be added as new protests occur, creating an evolving archive of public sentiment. Protest is not about self-expression. It is about witnessing. Each piece preserves a moment in time, capturing the collective emotion, urgency, and clarity of people speaking out.
